Senator Ron Wyden has long been an advocate for the elderly. As the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Wyden is well-positioned to work on issues important to the poor and elderly. Before his election to Congress, Senator Wyden earned his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1974. He then went on to teach gerontology and co-found the Oregon chapter of the Gray Panthers, an advocacy group for the elderly.  He also served as the director of Oregon Legal Services for the Elderly from 1977 to 1979 and was a member of the Oregon State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators during that same period. Senator Wyden, whose parents fled Nazi Germany in the mid-1930's, was involved in helping Russian-speaking Jews to emigrate from the former Soviet Union. He will speak to the value of community-based services for the older population and their families, highlighting the importance of the services JFCS provides to help our elderly thrive.  

The luncheon is a fundraiser that makes possible the programs that help so many in our community.
